Double-Blind Peer Review Policy

TATEFL applies a double-blind peer review process to ensure the fair, objective, and independent evaluation of submitted manuscripts. Under this system, the identities of authors are concealed from reviewers, and the identities of reviewers are concealed from authors throughout the review process.

Review Process

  1. Initial Editorial Screening. Upon submission, the editor evaluates the manuscript's relevance to the scope of TATEFL, originality, compliance with the journal's submission guidelines, and overall suitability for peer review.
  2. Manuscript Anonymization. Before the manuscript is sent for peer review, the editor or editorial team removes author names, institutional affiliations, acknowledgements, and other identifying information from the review copy to maintain the confidentiality of authors' identities.
  3. Assignment of Reviewers. Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to qualified reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject matter. TATEFL aims to obtain evaluations from at least two independent reviewers, subject to reviewer availability and editorial requirements.
  4. Double-Blind Peer Review. Reviewers independently assess the manuscript's originality, theoretical foundation, research methodology, data analysis, presentation of findings, discussion, and contribution to English language teaching and related fields.
  5. Editorial Decision. Based on the reviewers' recommendations and the editor's assessment, the manuscript may be accepted, returned for minor or major revisions, or rejected. The final editorial decision rests with the editor.
  6. Revision and Further Review. Authors are required to address reviewers' comments and submit a revised manuscript together with a point-by-point response. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
  7. Final Decision. The editor evaluates the revised manuscript and determines whether it meets TATEFL's publication standards.

Anonymity and Confidentiality

The editorial team is responsible for preparing an anonymized version of each manuscript before it is shared with reviewers. Reviewers must not be provided with information that directly identifies the authors, as far as reasonably practicable.

Reviewers are expected to maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose manuscript contents or their involvement in the review process. Authors and reviewers must not attempt to identify or contact one another regarding a manuscript under review.

TATEFL is committed to maintaining academic integrity, confidentiality, and fairness throughout the peer review process.
