Publication Fee
Publication Fees
The publication fee for articles accepted for publication in The Art of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TATEFL) is IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 25). The fee is payable only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication and supports administrative activities associated with the editorial and publication process.
Waiver Policy Based on Country Income Classification
TATEFL recognizes that authors may face different financial circumstances depending on their country of residence or institutional affiliation. To support equitable access to scholarly publishing, the journal considers publication fee waivers based on the World Bank's country income classifications and the financial circumstances of the authors.
For reference, the World Bank classifies economies into four income groups: low income, lower middle income, upper middle income, and high income. Authors can consult the official World Bank classification to identify the category of their country.
- Low-income economies: Authors affiliated with institutions in low-income economies may request a full waiver of the publication fee.
- Middle-income economies: Authors affiliated with institutions in lower-middle-income or upper-middle-income economies may request a partial waiver, subject to financial circumstances and editorial approval.
- High-income economies: Authors affiliated with institutions in high-income economies are generally expected to pay the full publication fee. However, waiver requests may be considered in cases of demonstrated financial hardship.
These categories provide guidance rather than an automatic entitlement to a waiver. All requests are considered individually, taking into account the authors' financial circumstances and the availability of institutional or research funding. The journal will communicate its decision to the corresponding author.

How to Request a Waiver
Authors who wish to request a full or partial waiver should contact the editorial office and provide a brief explanation of their financial circumstances. Requests should preferably be submitted before payment is made. The editorial decision regarding the manuscript will be handled independently of the fee waiver request.
